Of all the things that brings back childhood memories at Christmas time, it's sitting down to read "Jolly Old Santa Claus." It's my favorite Christmas story with the most fabulous illustrations imaginable by George Hinke. They are warm, detailed paintings with old fashion charm. It's not a book you can easily find now days and if you can find one it's been altered in some way. Luckily we tracked one down after "the flood" that came pretty close to the original we had lost (ever though nothing could compare to the original).
Tonight it's time to pull out some Christmas books, lay on my bed with the little boys and read some bedtime stories before we go to sleep. Nothing gets much better than that.
Except, you could add... the fact that it's cold and snowing outside our house which gives a more aesthetic quality to the visual image you may now have.

You make me smile. I have my fave Christmas stories too, but for some reason I hoard them until Christmas Eve. That's when we read The Night Before Christmas and the Grinch. Maybe I should break with tradition and snuggle under some blankies and read them THIS WEEK instead of next...
Tonight Adam and I read two chapters out of Charlotte's Web. It made me a little nostalgic for warmth, sunshine, and fresh air that doesn't freeze everything in your nose when you inhale.
And yes, winter isn't even officially here.... woe is me.
